FROM MERIDA
In the Mayan language ‘Ux’ means "to go down" and its suffix ‘mal’ can be translated as "how nice". Put together, meanings such as “good crop", "the city that has been constructed 3 times" or "the place where the harvest is rich" have become common.
A certified guide will accompany you to discover Uxmal's most important constructions, a Mayan city that experienced its heyday from 500 to 1,000 A.C. and that is today part of the Heritage of the Humanity of the UNESCO. Get surprised by the details with which the Mayan craftsmen managed to build new constructions and by the hydraulic engineering of the epoch; see the Quadrangle of the Nuns, the House of the Governor and the Pyramid of the Fortune-teller; a pyramid of 35 meters of height, also known as "Pyramid of the Dwarf", as the legend claims that a dwarf, son of a witch and hatched out of an egg, built it in only one night with his bare hands. Then visit the Church in St. Helena which accommodates the mummified bodies of several infants. Finish the day at the beautiful spot Ochil, a restored former Hacienda Henequenera, where Mayan craftsmen produced extraordinary articles; there, traditional cooks will prepare spectacular regional meals for you.
